Adult Workshops
These workshops are for adults interested in learning a new skill that either utilizes natural resources or provides an avenue to explore the outdoors. Adult workshops are taught by the experienced Trees For Tomorrow staff.

DAY PROGRAMS

Snowshoe Hike at Anvil National Recreation Trail
With TFT Staff

January 28, 2012
Snowshoe in the Nicolet National Forest.  This 1.5-mile trip will take participants through the majestic forests in northern Wisconsin.  Participants will get a chance to feed black-capped chickadees out of their hands!  Fee: $30. Fee includes transportation to the site, snowshoes, hot chocolate and cookies. Bring a snack if you wish. Time: 10 am – 2 pm.

Canoe Instruction and Canoe Baker Lake
With TFT Staff

June 30, 2012
Learn canoeing strokes and skills and then apply them on a trip to Baker Lake. We will learn basic canoe strokes and boat handling skills on a local lake, eat lunch and head 25 min northwest to Baker Lake. We will be able to practice skills and enjoy this scenic area, observing loons and eagles along the way. Fee: $40. Fee includes transportation to the site, all canoe equipment, lemonade and cookies. Participants need to bring a lunch.  Time: 9 am – 3 pm.  

WEEKEND PROGRAMS

Using Navigation Tools - GPS & Map and Compass

Learn how to use a map and compass and apply those skills by finding targets hidden in the woods.  Learn how to use a GPS and try your hand at Geocaching.  Use Radio Telemetry equipment in conjunction with a compass to find a hidden collar in the woods, and learn how this equipment is used to monitor Wisconsin’s wolf population.  Fee: $200.  Fee includes lodging, meals, transportation, and all equipment.

Nature Photography: Sunsets, Wetlands, and Waterfalls

July 11-15, 2012
Venture out into the beautiful Northwoods to learn how to take pictures of waterfalls, wetlands, sunsets and close-ups. Learn about all aspects of photography such as lighting, exposure, and composition. Suitable for beginner to imtermediate photographers who use an SLR-style camera or an advanced point and shoot camera. Please bring a laptop if you have one, with your digital camera.
Fee: $350 (Includes deposit, instruction, food and lodging) Credits: 3 Graduate Credits optional at an additional $330.

Willow Chair Building

July 13-15, 2012
Learn the techniques of bending and weaving willow branches to create a functional chair that may also become a topic of creative conversation among your friends. During this course, participants will master the skills necessary to create a traditional willow chair that will look right at home on a deck or porch. Fee: $275. Fee includes lodging, meals, instruction, and all the materials needed for the project.

Snowshoe and Rocking Chair Weaving
Instructed by Trees For Tomorrow Staff
September 14-16, 2012
Create your own functional work of art during this workshop. Choose to make either a pair of snowshoes to use on a winter hike or a snowshoe rocking chair to relax in by the fire. Using traditional Canadian frames and weaving methods, participants will be guided step-by-step through each phase of the weaving process. Finishing coats of varnish are to be applied to the snowshoes or rocker at home. Fee: Snowshoes - $275; Snowshoe Rocking Chair - $275. Rustic Furniture

September 14-16, 2012
With Sandy Lotto of Lotto’s Log Cabin Rustic Furniture Classes and Sales
Using basic hand tools, small trees, twigs and a lot of imagination you'll create several unique pieces of rustic furniture throughout the weekend. We'll make a scale model of a ladderback twig chair (which can be a nice business card holder) Friday night, a functional full sized twig chair on Saturday, and still have time to make other items to go with your chairs. A footstool, small table, planter basket or welcome sign are all options for additional projects. This class is geared towards adults with little or no woodworking experience. Fee: $275.  Fee includes lodging, meals, project plans/ideas, materials and tool use (although participants are asked to bring basic tools, if they have them).

Registration Policy
Full payment for each Skill Builder workshop is due 30 days prior to the start of the workshop. If not received 30 days in advance, your reservation will be cancelled. If a reservation is fully paid, but cancelled more than 30 days prior to the start of the workshop, a refund of the full amount (less the $50 deposit) will be made.

No refunds will be made for cancellations less than 30 days prior to the workshop. All fees collected are non-transferable. A non-refundable $50/person deposit for each workshop must be included with registration.Pre-workshop materials will be sent to you 30 days prior to the workshop. Fees include lodging, meals, instruction, and materials unless noted.

p to 30 days prior for a $50 processing fee. If you cancel less than 30 days prior to workshop, your payment and deposit cannot be refunded.

Instructors
All instructors are carefully selected based on their knowledge, experience, and ability to teach adult groups. Trees For Tomorrow staff have taken courses in each area of instruction to provide participants with a high quality learning experience.

Lodging
Guests staying at Trees For Tomorrow will find the facilities to have the rustic charm of a Northwoods lodge. Each dormitory style building has a central lounge, a fireplace, and central bathrooms. Guests can request a private room for an additional $20 or may choose to share a room with another participant.

Dining
Homecooked meals are prepared by the Trees For Tomorrow chef and dining staff and served in the historic dining hall on campus. A social hour is held during most workshops so participants have an opportunity to relax and discuss the events of the day with each other.
