Trees For Tomorrow offers teachers a variety of nature-oriented courses to provide an invigorating way to earn university credit or continue professional development.

Below is the 2010 Teacher Workshop schedule:

OUTDOOR SURVIVAL SKILLS

July 12-16, 2010
Have you ever been lost in the woods? Has your car ever left you tranded? Survival situations can happen anywhere at any time. Do you have what it takes to make it through? Would you like to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to become more self-reliant? Would you like to develop your outdoor leadership skills and bring exciting new adventures into your classroom? Then this course may be for you! Develop outdoor survival skills, the confidence to use them and the ability to teach them to your students during this 5-day course. With the Northwoods as our classroom, we will practice fire building; outdoor cooking; water purification; shelter-making; knot tying; orienteering; GPS; identifying and preparing wild edibles; paddling and canoe rescue techniques; wilderness 1st aid situations; selecting proper clothing and minimizing your impacts on the land using Leave No Trace principles. 
Registration fee: $50 Instruction fee: $150
Credits: 3 Graduate Credits optional at an additional $300. Register

GRAY WOLF, GRAY MATTER
Instructors: International Wolf Center Staff

July 19-21, 2010
Immerse yourself in the wolf's world! TFT partners with the International Wolf Center to provide educators the information, ideas and inspiration to teach about wolves in any setting. Gain familiarity with wolves, wolf issues and the important role humans play in wolf survival. Experiment with many ready-to-use teaching activities and take home a copy of the award-winning Gray Wolves, Gray Matter curriculum as well as other useful teaching resources appropriate for students in grades 4 through 12.
Registration fee: $50 Instruction fee: $100
Credits: 1 Graduate Credit optional at an additional $100. Register

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY

July 21-25, 2010
Venture out into the beautiful Northwoods to learn how to take pictures of waterfalls, wetlands, sunsets and close-ups. You will learn about all aspects of photogrpahy such as lighting, exposure, composition and basic photo editing on the computer. You will become a better photographer no matter what your subject is. Suitable for beginner to intermediate photographers who use an SLR-style camera (a more advanced point and shoot is also accceptable). Please bring a laptop with your digital camera if you have one.

Registration fee: $50. Instruction fee (and food and lodging): $300.

PHENOLOGY

August 8-13, 2010
Use this week in August to take a closer look at the natural happenings that are going on in the Northwoods. Observe the local fauna, flora and fungi that are active and growing at this time. Note daily changes and discuss how phenology can be integrated as part of your curriculum.

Food and lodging for certified practicing teachers will be covered by scholarship. Please call Carol at 715-479-6456 for more scholarship information or if you already have funding from your school or community.

Credit criteria and complete workshop information will be distributed after the registration information and reservation fee are received. Full payment for all workshops is due 30 days prior to the start of the workshop.

Instructors
All instructors are carefully selected based on their knowledge, experience, and ability to teach adult groups. Trees For Tomorrow staff have taken courses in each area of instruction to provide participants with a high quality learning experience.

Dining
Homecooked meals are prepared by the Trees For Tomorrow chef and dining staff and served in the historic dining hall on campus. A social hour is held prior to dinner on the first evening so that workshop participants have an opportunity to relax and discuss the events of the day with each other.

Lodging
Guests staying at Trees For Tomorrow will find the facilities to have the rustic charm of a Northwoods lodge. Each dormitory style building has a central lounge, a fireplace, and central bathrooms. Guests can request a private room or may choose to share a room with another participant.
